News :: 15MR: AVS RingTone Maker
Hello all and welcome to another edition of 15MR! Today’s target application is AVS Ringtone Maker—an application for creating ringtones for your cell phone. Just to let you know, because of Giveaway of the Day having a short downtime, my review may be a little short today.
As Giveaway of the Day states:
“Take a part of a song, a soundtrack from a movie and make it a ringtone, record your friends or kids voices for a realtone. Then transfer sounds to your phone via Bluetooth, Infrared or USB.
AVS RingTone Maker is the best way to add individuality to your cell!
Quick Pros
- Easy to use
- Nice set of processing functions
- Easy for trimming
- Clean interface
Quick Cons
- Having to use tooltips to find what buttons do slows the process down
- No built-in drivers for your cell phone like other brands do – Rely on you having that preconfigured
- No tips on building proper ringtones for your phone (IE:- file format, bitrate, samplerate, etc.)
- Concerned about multiple companies concidering themselves the author of this application… (See below)
Expansion
This application for the most part is easy to use and very straight forward. With the advent of MP3 phones, my cons about the built-in drivers or building the right ringtone file format doesn’t apply as much, but there are a lot of phone which can not play standard MP3s or others as a fileformat and require specifics to build a ringtone; My LG 8100 for example. The help file is totally blank so you have to revert to their website, which doesn’t help either. Now, here’s where things got a little odd. As since Giveaway of the Day went down before I could download it (And now back up,) I went hunting on Google for the application so I could get prepared for this review. The first link I found was AVSMedia and I started looking around. I thought it was a bit odd that GotD stated it was $29.95 for the application. So, when GotD went back up, I downloaded the application, installed, and went to find the website… AVS4You - I’m a bit baffled. I looked it up. Two different companies, the applications are a—little- different (icons, helpfile,) but in the end they are the same program. It makes me question if one of these two are a distributor instead of the original author, or what it going on. I went back to google and looked at the search results again. I went down three pages to find AVS4You. Now, my concern is this; is AVS4You a legal version of this application; Is it a redistributed application, or what? You get ALL the software that AVSMedia sells, for cheap compared to what AVSMedia charges.
Final Verdict
If you have a cell phone and have some know-how on what your cell phone needs, go with this application. Everyone (well, most at least) like to change up their ringtones from time to time, and this makes it fairly easy. Now, for those of you who come after this offer expires, as long as AVS4You is legit, I would say buy it. Not because it’s worth $29.95, but because ALL the applications are $29.95 for a year, or $59.94 as long as they survive. If you use 3 or 4 of the applications, it makes the price very reasonable. Again, just watch yourself; there does to seem to be some oddness between the two sites.
